We’ve gathered some of the best tricks to help you get the most out of your home sale, even when all else has failed.

Secret #1: Organize storage

The first thing a buyer will be looking for in a home is whether it has enough space for their items. Remove half of the things in your closets and cabinets, and then organize the rest. It will give the spaces a more roomy-feel to them, suggesting that there is plenty of room for more.

Secret #2: Give your pets a holiday

Unfortunately, not everyone is a cat or dog person. And that means your adorable furry family member may not help sell the “clean and perfect” home you are trying to convey. Ask if a neighbor or family member can watch your pets for the day while you have an open house. Be sure to pick up toys and food bowls from around the house as well, as they may give buyers the wrong impression of an unclean home.

Secret #3: De-personalize

We love our family photos, but potential buyers might have a hard time overlooking them when trying to picture their family living there. Limit the amount of pictures, personal keepsakes and collections when showing your home. It’ll help you stage your house in the best possible light.

Secret #4: Never underestimate the power of a kitchen

One of the most important rooms in a house is the kitchen, and if yours is outdated and messy, potential buyers could be discouraged. The good news is that any remodeling you do in the kitchen adds value to the home, so you are likely to get around 85% of your investment back. If you’re tight on funds, paint your cabinets in neutral colors and update at least one stainless steel appliance. Your kitchen will feel more customizable and high-end with these little tricks.
