4 Times Home Maintenance Should Be Left to the Professionals

REMAX Showcase Maintenance 600

Before starting any maintenance task, homeowners have to decide if the job is one they can do by themselves or one that requires a professional’s touch. Many times, the decision comes down to safety concerns and the possibility of making a problem worse with the wrong “fix”, which could lead to a much costlier outcome.

While every situation will be slightly different, here are some key maintenance chores that would be better fixed with professional help:

New Windows, Doors and Fences: The process of installing a new door or window includes removing the old fixture, fitting the new one into the space, adding any additional material necessary and then safely securing the new fixture. Unless you have experience with this type of installation, having a professional assess and provide the proper tools can save you any guesswork and additional money.

The same can be said for a new fence. The installation process is a large task to undertake, and many factors can cause a fence to be crooked, weak or unable to withstand the elements. Ask a professional to install the fence and see if they offer discounts to homeowners who purchase materials through the company.

Pest Control: There are certain unwanted visitors that can be dealt with by using home remedies and chemicals. However, when the problem becomes larger than a small space, it might be time to call a licensed professional. They can tell you exactly what you are dealing with and the procedure to get rid of it. They will also follow typical behaviors of the pests to ensure they are not residing in multiple locations throughout the home.

Plumbing: Fixing a leaking pipe or inadequate plumbing takes more work than a simple twist of the wrench. If you start removing a section of the pipe without first determining where it connects to, you could end up flooding the space or creating damage to the pipe itself. Take a look at the issue and if you are not 100% certain of the solution, contact a local plumber. They can use their knowledge to determine the root of the cause and stop a small problem from becoming a very costly fix.

Tree Maintenance: Some homeowners choose to trim branches and smaller sections of the tree on their own, but if a tree needs to be removed completely, more safety concerns arise. Trees don’t always fall where you want them to, and a wrong angle could damage the house, other parts of the yard or a person standing nearby. Contact a local tree service to take down and remove the tree. They’ll get the job done quicker and reduce any potential risks.
